The following is the procedure to make a call:
• Try to be as calm as possible.
• State your name in full. (Spell it out to the operator if possible).
• State your contact numbers.
• State the main reason why you are calling. (What is the situation).
• State the address where the emergency is, nearest land mark and nearest cross road.
• State the suburb and city where the incident is.
• Do not hang up, wait for the operator to finish first.
• Ask for the reference number and store safe.
• Ask for the operator’s name.
• Always verify the information given and give as much information as possible.

In case of medical requirement:
• It is important for everyone to know first aid.
• Prior to the arrival of the paramedics, it is of paramount importance to render first aid treatment to the patient.
• In case of fire, it is important to call first before trying to extinguish the blaze.
• The knowledge of the types of fires because not all the fires are extinguishable by water.
• It is important as well to guide the fire and emergency services resources assigned to the actual scene where they are required to save those couple of seconds.
