Suspect linked to 13 house break-ins arrested in tavern

Devon police received a tip-off from a community member about whereabouts of the suspect, and upon arriving at the tavern found the suspect guzzling down a cold one.

A suspect wanted in connection with 13 house break-ins was arrested last Wednesday while enjoying a tipple at a tavern in Devon, says Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.

The 34-year-old suspect has been on the run since 2016 when he escaped from police custody.

Devon police received a tip-off from a community member about whereabouts of the suspect, and upon arriving at the tavern found the suspect guzzling down a cold one.

The suspect was immediately arrested for escaping from lawful custody and upon further investigation, the police found the suspect is wanted for five cases of house break-in in Springs and seven cases of house break-in in Devon.

The suspect appeared in the Springs Magistrate’s Court last Wednesday and the case was postponed for further investigation.

All the cases against the suspect will be centralised at Springs Magistrate’s Court.

Acting station commander of Springs SAPS Col Karel Stoltz applauded the members for their commitment and enthusiasm to apprehend the suspect.
