A night of drinking between friends last Tuesday evening ended with one man arrested for an alleged rape and defeating the ends of justice, says Capt Johannes Ramphora, the Springs Police spokesperson.

The victim and the suspect had been drinking with friends in Daveyton when the group got hungry and the suspect and victim drove to a nearby garage to buy pies.

On the way back, the suspect pulled off at the N12 Etwatwa off-ramp where he allegedly raped the victim.

After the alleged rape, where the victim was also allegedly assaulted with a bottle, the suspect was spooked by a police van that was patrolling in the area.

The suspect then jumped back into the car, dragging the victim with him and sped off.

After explaining what had happened, the police took the victim to help her open a case.

Meanwhile, the suspect went to the Etwatwa Police Station to open a hijacking case but due to some quick action by the police and positive identification by the victim, the suspect was arrested instead.

He is currently in Springs Police custody where he has been charged with perjury, rape and defeating the ends of justice.
