EMPD’s new crime fighting machinery arrives

It is also fitted with a hydraulically operated front dozer blade capable of removing objects blockading roads and has roof-mounted cable cutters.

The EMPD, in its quest to deal with violent public protest in a manner in line with the Constitution of the Republic, namely, in a non-lethal fashion, ordered seven Nyalas via TFM, a company situated at Olifantsfontein in the City of Ekurhuleni.

The Nyala is an agile and highly protected armoured personnel carrier to ensure effective policing for crowd management while ensuring safety of police officers in riotous situations.

Thus far, the EMPD has taken delivery of five Nyalas with the balance of two to be delivered by the end of June.
