“Trucks are a very big problem,” says principal Doriza Pearson.

“It’s a single road, and when people try to overtake, it becomes very dangerous.

“Trucks aren’t the only problem as the cars on this road also drive at very high speeds.

“We care about the children and we don’t want anything to happen to them.”

The speed limit is 60km/h, but most cars drive in excess of 80km/h.

Pearson adds: “We had a petition a few years ago for speed humps and all the parents and many residents signed for humps to be installed.

“We went to the municipality and they said that they cannot install speed humps because it’s a ‘national road’, which makes no sense to me.”

Pearson and many residents ask that the metro do something, even if it’s a stop street.

Besides being given more than 48 hours, the metro have failed to respond to the Addie’s enquiries.
