Metro responds to Markville story

The metro is currently undergoing a tender process to procure lift specialist contractors to install new lifts at Markville Flats.

In response to an article written about the problems residents at Markville Flats face, titled No answers for Markville residents, published on June 10, Themba Gadebe from the metro gave the Addie the following response:

“The lift at Markville Flats has been removed due to its age.

“The metro is currently undergoing a tender process to procure lift specialist contractors to install new lifts at Markville Flats.

“New contractors are anticipated to be sourced by end of September.

“The metro is well aware of the urgent need at the flats, thus it is trying its level best to have contractors ready as soon as possible.”

When asked about the empty lots, Gadebe says “these are also waiting to be renovated”.

“Consultants were sent to Markville Flats to conduct 3D scans of the lift shafts to ensure the walls can carry the weight of the lift,” concludes Gadebe.
