Senior Citizen Centre wish to do more

The centre also has a soup kitchen where they provide food for the needy as part of their outreach programme.

 

The senior citizens’ centre aims to create a community for elderly and retired citizens in Springs.

Many of these residents live in housing complexes and some live on their own property.

The centre hosts a variety of activities for the citizens to engage in such as computer classes and yoga.

Services such as a hairdresser and a podiatrist come and visit the centre to offer their services.

They also offer lunches, a get together and library services throughout the week.

Merle Mackenzie says that she hopes to get all the citizens together, create friendships and maybe get them to forget some of their problems.,

Mackenzie wishes to create a homely and friendly atmosphere where everybody can get along.

Transport is provided for them.

The centre also has a soup kitchen where they provide food for the needy as part of their outreach programme.

These outreach programmes are conducted from Johan Jurgens School where it iseasier for volunteers to congregate.

On Wednesday they were handing out beanies for the coming winter.

They were also engaged in a food packaging effort which they hand out to needy citizens in Springs.

Each pack can feed up to five people.

Mackenzie asks that people come and volunteer.
