Farewell at Springs Police Station for officer

Gwebushe says she was shocked to see Chueu still pushing a crate of dockets on April 26 as most police officers start dragging their feet three months before their last day.

 

Springs Police Station held a surprise farewell function on May 2 at the police station’s lapa for now retired WO Wellington Chueu.

Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says: “Chueu has been serving in the SAPS since 1983.

“He is now 60 years old and decided to go on pension.

“We are celebrating this day with him.

“He doesn’t have any criminal or misconduct record and has led by example over the years.”

Chueu says: “I have served for 36 years.

“The biggest highlight of my career was being a detective and dealing with investigations, I love investigating a lot and it made me happy.

“Now I am going to enjoy my retirement peacefully and spend time with my grandchildren.

“I feel so happy that my colleagues from the detective branch organised this for me,” says Chueu.

Chueu’s wife, Capt Phumzile Chueu, says: “My husband is a humble, hardworking person who knows his job and communicates very well with suspects and colleagues.

“I am very happy today and I hope God will bless the both of us.”

Springs SAPS station commander Brig Thembeka Gwebeshu says: “Chueu was an asset to the SAPS.

“He was loyal and committed to his job till the last day.

“He has sentenced a lot of serious crime criminals and that was a highlight.

“He has also transferred skills to younger colleagues and we are thankful for that.”
