In response to the open substation article the Advertiser wrote titled “Open substation in Vorster Street a cause for concern” on March 28, 2019 , Nhlanhla Cebekhuluhave of the metro has stated the following.
The maintenance of the locking mechanism of the substation is regularly done and is within schedule. The locking mechanism is not missing.

It is designed not to show any visible parts, as part of its security features.
This is to make unauthorised access difficult or impossible when it is functioning.
