EMPD arrests taxi driver for fake licence disc

The suspect was taken to the Springs Police Station and charged with displaying a false licence disc and his minibus was impounded for further investigation.

 

The EMPD Equestrian Unit arrested a taxi driver for operating with a fake licence disc on Saturday morning on Welgedacht Road.

Kobeli Mokheseng, the EMPD spokesperson says: “After a suspicious-looking minibus, which had just dropped off a commuter, was cornered and thoroughly checked, officers picked up that the licence disc is a copy and it expired on January 31 this year.

“The 45-year-old male driver of a CMC CAM minibus alleged he does a pre-trip inspection on the motor vehicle every morning and he was under the impression that the licence disc was genuine,” says Mokheseng.

The suspect was taken to the Springs Police Station and charged with displaying a false licence disc and his minibus was impounded for further investigation.

He will appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court soon.
