Residents to wait for another seven years for Daggafontein Mega City Project

The community liaison officer, James Thulane Dube, says: “We are now busy with the civil works doing some underground job, installing electricity and water pipes."

Future residents of the Mega City project in Daggafontein can expect to wait for approximately seven years before the project is complete.

The community liaison officer, James Thulane Dube, says: “We are now busy with the civil works doing some underground job, installing electricity and water pipes.

“We will start with foundations between June and August this year.”

Ward 76 Clr Shadow Shabangu says: “There are three informal settlements currently – Daggafontein, KwasVillage and N17 Road – which will get houses through the department of the Human Settlement at the end of this project.

“There is a database which will help in terms of screening them to check which category of housing applicants qualify for.

“This project may be completed in 2026.”

The Ward 76 Ward committee member who heads the Economic Development Sector, Bhekizizwe Siluba, says: “We should acknowledge the work the government has done for us, making sure that everyone gets a dignified shelter, even though the residents in the nearby areas had complaints.

“However, they ended up agreeing to the project.

“This project has been benefiting small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in the area since its inception,” says Siluba.
