Street lights have been down for over two months in Fusion Road in Casseldale, Springs.

Residents say they have been complaining about the issue for a long time but it has not yet been resolved.

Richard Anderson, a resident, says, “I phoned and they gave me a reference number and about three days later the lights came on but were just on during the day and off at night.

“I phoned Ekurhuleni about four times and they kept giving me reference number after reference number.”

Anderson says he has not tried to speak to the councillor because he doesn’t know who the councillor is and he doesn’t understand why they have to struggle with this service as they pay rates and taxes.

“I’ve been to the electricity and energy depot in 1st Avenue countless times and still today nothing has been done to try to fix this matter and honestly we are scared that we’ll fall victims of crime if this matter remains unresolved,” says Anderson.

Ward 76 Councillor Shadow Shabangu says, “I was not aware of this matter. I have just found out about it but I will make sure that it is solved as soon as I get the reference numbers. It is not fair on the people of Fusion Road to be in darkness for such a long time.”

Shabangu says they are busy fixing the lights and only a small portion is not fixed.

Despite having given the metro time to respond, no comment was received at the time of going to print.
