ESDA Frail Care Centre residents have until May to find alternative accommodation

Furthermore, Smit says management at the centre have not provided alternative accommodation and instead advised residents to apply for accommodation at the Advent Haven Frail Care in Heidelberg which has space for eight residents.

ESDA Frail Care Centre residents received the shock of their lives after they were handed notice last Wednesday to leave the centre by May 31.

The management at ESDA says the shutdown is due to financial constraints and economic circumstances.

Residents at the centre are shocked by this and say they have nowhere left to go.

Rentia Smit, whose parents live in the Frail Care Centre, says her family has been left in limbo and feels betrayed by what has happened.

“My parents bought a unit at the village specifically because of the frail care facilities available at the village, as stated under Section 19 of their contract.

“They would have never bought here otherwise.

“On top of that, my aunt also bought a unit at the village in April last year here and no one ever mentioned any financial problems the village was facing.

“What is going to happen to the residents who have no family and have no place to go?” says Smit.

Smit says they are still expected to pay rent for centre while they look for alternative accommodation.

Furthermore, Smit says management at the centre have not provided alternative accommodation and instead advised residents to apply for accommodation at the Advent Haven Frail Care in Heidelberg which has space for eight residents.

“There are 27 other residents who will still have nowhere to go,” says Smit.

Smit says residents and their family have given management letter last Friday notifying them of their intention to take legal action against ESDA should they not hear from them or meet with them to resolve the situation before or on April 3.

Petro Burr-Dixon, the administrator at ESDA, says they cannot comment at this stage.
