Springs CBD cleaning up in progress

Despite the metro’s campaign to clean up the city, there are still some parts of the CBD which have not received the necessary attention and were not cleaned up.

Animal carcasses illegally dumped

Despite the metro’s campaign to clean up the city, there are still some parts of the CBD which have not received the necessary attention and were not cleaned up.

One such place is the subway bridge at the R29 towards the end of the Springs CBD near Geduld where animal carcasses were found recently.

Animal carcasses.

Upon seeing the area in question, Ward 75 Clr Dean Stone assures readers he will be taking the matter up with the relevant departments.

“Each and every residence in Springs pays for cleaning services.

“There is a levy for such.

“Health and Environmental waste departments are responsible for cleaning such places,” says Stone.

There is no ‘no dumping sign’ by the subway, but according to Stone, it is physically impossible to put up a sign at every place where it is illegal to dump.

Stone says, “There are by-laws put in place but clearly they are not enforced by the metro police and the environmental department. I am going to take this up with the departments.

“It’s a disgrace; it shows that the metro police are not doing its duties.”

Despite attempts to get the metro’s comment, the metro didn’t comment.

However two days after Stone saw the place, he spoke with the solid waste department and the rubbish was removed.
