No lights and burst pipes at the Springs Long Distance Taxi Rank

Furthermore, many of the toilets at the rank either have no water because there are no taps or there are burst pipes.

The Springs Long Distance Taxi Rank still has no lights despite numerous complaints to the metro.

As The Addie reported in December last year, the lights at the taxi rank were stolen in March and the metro had promised to replace them in the new financial year, which never happened.

Taxi operators and commuters feel unsafe and have been relying on torches and their taxis to light up the area.

The urinals don’t have taps so many have resorted to urinating outside.

“Pickpocketers are also hard to spot or catch as it is dark where the commuters are and it is impossible to chase them in the dark.

“We need the metro to attend to this matter urgently,” says Dumisani Mtshali, one of the operators at the rank.

Furthermore, many of the toilets at the rank either have no water because there are no taps or there are burst pipes.

Ward councillor Dean Stone was appalled by the lack of water and lights at the rank and says the matter will be receiving his urgent attention.

“It’s clear no work has been done at the taxi rank for a long time and I intend to raise it with the metro,” says Stone.

The metro failed to respond in time for publication.
