Second Avenue building turns 100

On Saturday, their loyal customers came to celebrate their milestone birthday.

A building on the corner of Second Avenue and Seventh Street is turning 100 years old this year.

The building, which is owned by Springs Plumbing, was built in 1919 and is in a remarkable condition.

Geo Kimmelman was the architect who submitted the building plans for the building to the metro.

Except a few cosmetic changes, the building looks the same way as it did 100 years ago.

“It has always looked like this and has always had some sort of business operating from it.

“It’s been a carpentry shop, shoemaker shop and a showroom for motorcars. We moved in here in 1995.

“There was a family that lived here once, but that was a very long time ago,” says manager Christelle Goldsworthy.

Goldsworthy says the layout of the building has not changed much, only the entrance for the customers.

On Saturday, their loyal customers came to celebrate their milestone birthday.

Local businessmen Don McCarthy and Warren Brown say they have been dealing with the business for roughly 50 years each.

“It’s a fantastic achievement for them,” says Brown.
