Strubenvale open drains a danger to everyone

Cory says the open drain is not the only concern he has about safety on his street.

Rodney Cory got the shock of his life when he almost drove his car into a three-metre deep drain outside his gate.

Unbeknown to Cory, the metro removed the drain cover which covers one of the main sewers lines in Strubenvale last Tuesday, and it remains open.

“There was no reason why it was removed, there were no leaks or anything.

“My biggest worry is that someone will fall in as the street lights are not working and someone could fall in,” says Cory.

Sewage nightmare nearly over for Pollak Park residents

The Strubenvale resident says he doesn’t want someone to get hurt before the drain is closed again.

Cory says the open drain is not the only concern he has about safety on his street.

The substation across the road from his house has also been open for seven months and is an accident waiting to happen as there are children who live nearby.

“I have reported it many times, but nothing has happened,” says Cory.

Ward councillor Dean Stone was concerned when he heard what happened and said he would report it to the metro.

The metro failed to respond in time for publication.

However, the drain has since been closed.
