Security personnel at the Gauteng Department of Education district office were held at gunpoint during a robbery on Saturday evening.
It was just after 7pm when four suspects, one of whom had a firearm, approached the two guards on duty and asked how many people were employed at the time.
After the security guard indicated there was another guard at reception, the suspects proceeded there with the two victims and held them all up at gunpoint.

“The suspects asked the victims about tablets, but the guards knew nothing about them.
“Thereafter, the suspects proceeded to the second floor where they used a crowbar to break into the office there and stole 40 computer boxes, 16 monitors, data projectors, CD writers, a plasma TV and extension cords.
“The victims were then locked into an office on the third floor where the suspcts ordered them to stay,” says Springs police spokesperson Capt Amanda Vriede.

After a period of approximately 30 minutes, one of the victims managed to get the door open and noticed the suspects had fled.
When asked about the possibility of the robbery being an inside job, Steve Mabona, the department’s spokesperson, says: “We cannot confirm, but police are investigating the incident.
“The department is reviewing the current security measures and if need be, additional security upgrades will be put in place,” says Mabona.
There were no injuries during the course of the robbery.
