Daggafontein rehabilitation centre offers hope to addicts

The centre has outside meetings that are open to the public, those who are recovering or have recovered from an addiction every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7pm.

A new rehabilitation centre has opened in Daggafontein.

The centre, which has been operating since January 7, is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO) that seeks to give addicts a second chance at life.

“We saw there was a huge need in Springs for a place like this.

“We want to help people who can’t afford to get help and also involve the community,” says Debbie Marais, owner and psychologist at the centre.

The centre has a 21-day inpatient programme, but it could be longer depending on the condition of addiction.

“Addiction is an illness, not something that you can stop at any time.

“That is why patients need guidance and assistance with working through it.

“Recovery is a journey, not an event,” says Marais.

The centre also has a relapse prevention programme and treatment involves the patients’ family and friends.

“Our programme is also spiritually based in that we believe in a higher power.

“That is why our centre is open to people from all religions and cultures, and we are guided by their needs.

“We want to be your new chance in life,” says Marais.

The centre also hopes to start a school programme where they talk to children about drugs and their effects on people’s lives, health and community.

The centre is open 24 hours a day and there are nursing staff on site as well as a house manager.

“We would welcome any donations or help the community can give us.

“We work with the patients to see how much they can afford to pay, and then we take it from there,” says Marais.

The centre has outside meetings that are open to the public, those who are recovering or have recovered from an addiction every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7pm.

The rehab can be found at Portion 93 of Farm 125, Daggafontein on Clydesdale Road (next to the nursery).
