Commuters must use taxis at the ranks on First Street

According to Veli Sithole, the PRO at the association, commuters put themselves at risk when they use the taxis on Third Street.

Springs – The Springs Taxi Association has urged commuters to only use taxis that are stationed at the Springs Main Taxi Rank and the Top Centre Taxi Rank on First Street.

According to Veli Sithole, the public relations officer at the association, commuters are putting themselves at risk when they use the taxis on Third Street.

“We have had quite a number of complaints about criminal activity from commuters who have used taxis that are parked there.

“Also, those taxis might not be licensed. Therefore, should anything happen during the journey, we cannot assist them.

“There are squad patrollers on that street and there will be disciplinary consequences for those drivers found picking up passengers there,” says Sithole.

Sithole encourages all commuters to go to the taxi ranks because there they can protect their goods.

They will also know the details of each taxi at the ranks.

At present, taxis affiliated with the Springs Taxi Association have red stickers at the back and a sticker number inside.

Should a commuter have a problem, the association can track down the owner and driver of the taxi.

To lodge a complaint, commuters can call Sithole on 011 815 6240 or 079 143 2076.
