Springsites divided about Ekurhuleni’s plan to expropriate land without compensation

“This is a huge milestone in the history of the City of Ekurhuleni and South Africa in general.

“It is well documented that the struggle of returning the land to the people has always been the political struggle led by African National Congress, along with many progressive organisations,” says Dlabathi.

“Though we conceded that we have not moved with the necessary speed and boldness required to address the land question, we are however encouraged by the council’s decision,” Dlabathi says.

“This move by the council demonstrate decisiveness, and this will be a test case in breaking the old order given that land is a critical component of our radical socio-economic transformation trajectory.”
