Jade Beeby, Johannesburg Festival Coordinator, says the Shakespeare Schools Festival was founded in 2009 by Kseniya Filinova in Cape Town with one school and has been running ever since.

The festival now takes place in five provinces in South Africa and has more than 90 schools running with it.

“Our festival is based on the premise that we provide schools with a professional platform to perform Shakespeare’s plays,” says Beeby.
