Thirty month wait for lifts continues for Markville Flats residents

Despite the metro saying the new lift would be installed after the arrival of the parts from abroad in about eight weeks at the beginning of May, Marksville residents still have no lifts.

The Markville Flats are still without an elevator in the high rise building.

Residents have been without a working lift for 30 months.

The flats, which are owned by council, house the elderly who struggle to walk up the numerous flights of stairs in the building.

This is despite the metro saying the new lift would be installed after the arrival of the parts from abroad in about eight weeks at the beginning of May.

Speaking to The Addie this week, resident Linda van Biljon says some work has begun on the elevator, such as the removal of the old one and preparing the space for a new one, but nothing else has been done.

The metro failed to respond to our questions as to what is causing the delay in time for publication.
