Here is a taste of whats being planned on the East Rand over the next few weeks.

August 24

• Springs Tamil Association invites all devotees to their Varalakshmi Virtham Pooja, 2018, at the Sitthi Vinayagar Alayam at 3 Thirteenth Avenue, Bakerton, at 7pm. All women and young girls from the community are invited to participate in this auspicious prayer by performing the Maha Kuthu Villaku Pooja. August 25

• Leratong Place of Love Crises Centre annual general meeting to take place at 9.30am at the premises of the Selcourt Methodist Church, 7 Granada Road, Selcourt. All interested parties are invited to attend. Contact Sharon Laas on 011 818 3713 (during office hours).

August 31

• Springs Senior Citizens AGM at 1pm at the Senior Citizen’s Centre at 1A Seventh Street, CBD. All welcome. Contact Merke Mackenzie on 011 811 1700.

August 31 to September 1

• Springs Fonteine Fees 2018 at Dr Johan Jurgens Sports Grounds. Enjoy a fun weekend with us, Dewald Wasserfall and the Flooze. Stalls available. Contact Katrien Prinsloo on 083 437 1039.

September 1

• Springs Old Boys Springs Market at the SOB soccer club in Gilgil Street starting at 10am. Food, books, crafts and more on sale. Contact Lindi Matfield on 079 803 0280 to book a stall.

• Join the Springs Park Rotary Anns for a celebratory spring tea at Riverside Country Estate. Bring your friends and enjoy an afternoon of good food, fun and an excellent speaker. Contact Barbara-Ann Day on 082 450 1130 or Pat Dewe on 082 492 9340.

• Trinity Methodist Church Spring Market from 8.30am to 1pm at 3 Colliery Road, Lodeyko, Springs. Stalls available, bring your own table. Contact Charlene Brown on 072 243 1673 or Rev Edward Brown on 072 397 5804.

Every Friday

• Senior Citizens Lunch at noon at SpringsCare. Booking is essential and must be confirmed by Thursday, no later than 2pm. The centre is located at 1A Seventh Street North, just off First Avenue in the CBD. Contact Merle Mackenzie on 011 811 1700.

August 19

• Guided group tour through Melville Koppies Central. Sets off 8.30am sharp. Park in the upper car park at Marks Park, Judith Rd, Emmarentia. Then walk across

Judith to the entrance opposite. All donations used to maintain the Koppies. ­Children must be over six years old. No dogs. Contact Wendy Carstens on 011 482 4797.

September 8

• The East Rand Woodworkers Association’s annual fair from 9am at the Northfield Methodist Church, corner of Hurricane Street and Aerodrome Drive, Benoni. Free entry, food and woodworking crafts on sale as well as loads of woodworking demonstrations. Contact Les Sales on 082 219 4552

October 7

• The Benoni High Class of 1970 is invited to attend a reunion at Benoni Country Club, from 11.30am. Tickets are per person and spouses and partners are welcome. Guests need to RSVP by September 15. First Wednesday of the month

• Join the Boksburg Hiking Club for a meeting at the Atlas Bowling Club, corner of Denel North and Atlas roads, Bonaero Park. Braai fires will be ready from 5.30pm for a bring and braai.
