Sassa urges beneficiaries to collect gold card

Sassa beneficiaries need to collect their new gold cards by September.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has launched a new gold card.

Springs community members are urged to collect the money on their old cards before the end of September 2018.

This is especially important for people who will replace their cards after August 20.

Lethabo Boya, the manager for Sassa Springs, urges beneficiaries to take their identity document and old Sassa cards with when they go to Sassa’s offices to collect the new cards.

This new card does not allow for any deductions so beneficiaries won’t be able to complain about their money being deducted.

Lethabo adds beneficiaries can collect their money from any ATM or supermarket.

Sassa Springs will be open on Saturdays from 8am to 4pm to cater for the beneficiaries who are not able to visit the offices during the week.

Beneficiaries should not throw away their old cards until all their money reflects on the new card.

Community members who use bank cards don’t need to change to the gold card because they will continue receiving their money through the bank.

However, beneficiaries can’t have a Sassa card if they receive money through the bank because the Sassa card has to be fully functional.

Springs resident and Sassa beneficiary Daniel Riet has expressed his dissatisfaction with not being able to have a Sassa card if you receive money through the bank.

He complains that he needs to two cards for separate uses and was informed that he cannot have both cards when he visited the Sassa offices in Springs CBD.

In order for residents to avoid a stampede, beneficiaries are asked to urgently change their old cards to the new gold Sassa card with immediate effect.
