UPDATE: Springs library closed until month end

Community members complain about condition of library.

Following complaints by Springs residents about the upkeep of the Springs Library, the Addie discovered that the library is currently closed and will remain so until the end of August.

While investigating these complaints, The Addie visited the Library on Monday and found the doors were closed and a notice indicted a burst pipe is being attended to in the lending section which will remain closed until further notice.

While no date is given for the reopening of this section, regular library visitors will recall that the facility was closed for two months after a pipe burst in the learning section in November 2016.

The library in the heart of Springs is a place all members of society visit.

Whether it is for school books, assignments or just leisure for those who enjoy reading, people will visit the library.

People can spend many hours in the library doing whatever it is they visit it for.

However, many residents in Springs that visit the library are not happy with the upkeep of the library.

The residents have complained that the bathrooms are hardly kept as clean and hygienic as they should be and are often not working properly.

It could be the taps that aren’t working running properly or the toilets themselves aren’t working as they are expected to be by the members of the public.

They also complain about the general cleanliness of the library as a whole.

The library is the municipality’s responsibility to keep clean and always up to standard.

We have asked for comment from the relevant municipal officials to ask why the library is currently in the state it is in, when it can be expected to be in a better condition and when all the community member complaints will be attended to.

They were, however, not available for comment.

When the Springs Advertiser returned to the library for further observation of the library, it was found closed because of a pipe that burst.
