Wright Park CPF chairperson expresses dissatisfaction with eco-gym

Residents are not happy with the equipment being installed at the Wright Park eco-gym.

Community members of Wright Park, Springs, have expressed concerns about the eco-gym equipment is are currently being installed at the park opposite Meyer Drive.

The chairperson of the community policing forum (CPF) of Wright Park, Arles Baloyi, complains that upon observation of the equipment it looks like the company that is installing the equipment is using low-quality material.

He says the spacing is also not sufficient, with the equipment is crammed into a small space.

As a result the activities the equipment is intended to be used for cannot be done.

Baloyi says: “The layout is very small and narrow, like they are building it for children.”

Mandla Ntsibande, a Wright Park resident, is also not happy with it and says it looks like the metro is just setting up the equipment for the sake of getting the job done, rather than making it a fun place for residents to exercise.

He explains the contractor is not considering quality, layout and community satisfaction.

Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, says: “The project at Wright Park is not complete, therefore, the city urges residents to be patient and wait for the project to be completed so that they can see it in its finished state.”

He adds the city is monitoring the project very closely to ensure that quality is not compromised.

He urges the community to note that contractors are allowed to buy the equipment from different suppliers so long as they stick to the specifications and therefore products may differ from park to park, but quality remains the same.
