No backlog with waste collections, says metro

“The backlogs were attended to from July 30 and were completed by August 4,” says Themba Gadebe.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality says they are back on track with the refuse removal.

This comes after residents and ward councillors complained about the metro’s failure to remove the rubbish in some areas for as long as three weeks.

The delay in the collection was reportedly caused by the unavailability of some trucks due to unplanned maintenance.

The trucks were sent to maintenance service providers, but only after the mandatory supply chain management processes that are necessary to provide checks and balances, and accountability.

Themba Gadebe, the spokesperson for the metro, says, “The backlogs were attended to from July 30 and were completed by August 4.

“The refuse collection services are up to date.”
