Geduld community help Brits family

“There are three of us living here and we have no toilet, running water or electricity,” says Eugene Brits.

Geduld CPF, alongside ward councillor Thulani Simelani and the Ward 74 committee, gathered to help the Brits family on Saturday morning.

The group swept, dusted and organised the home of the struggling family.

“There are three of us living here and we have no toilet, running water or electricity.

“The house that we live in used to be a store, so it is cold and drafty,” says Eugene Brits.

The family has lived in the house for three years, the only person who is employed is Eugene’s wife Yolanda, who works as a car guard.

The family fell on hard times after Eugene’s leg was amputated after an accident at work.

He has also developed other health problems since the accident.

The 47-year-old man says he would like to work as a security controller in a control room as he has done that before.

Community members brought donated clothes, food and shoes for the family.

Eugene was grateful for all the help the community gave him and his family.
