Busy intersection on Grootvlei and Welgedacht Roads a nightmare for motorists

Residents say the intersection is a hotspot for accidents.

Residents from Payneville are begging the metro to either install a set of traffic lights or a three-way stop at the intersection of Welgedacht and Grootvlei roads.

Motorists are concerned about the number of accidents that are happening at that intersection daily.

“The cars and trucks that are coming from Payneville, Grootvlei don’t stop, forcing other drivers to stop.

“The drivers, who are turning, are then forced to stop in the middle of the road so they can drive into Welgedacht Road.

“What makes it worse is that people are speeding and there are children playing in the area.

“How many lives must be maimed or lost before something happens?” says Mohamed Abed, a concerned resident.

Residents say that if the council doesn’t have money for traffic lights, then a three-way stop will do.

“We don’t want to protest and block off the road but that is what we will do if the council doesn’t listen to our plea,” says Abed.

The metro failed to respond in time for publication.
