The future looks bright for hotel school students

Graduation season at Peermont Hotel School.

Peermont Hotel School (PHS), a corporate social investment (CSI) initiative of Emperors Palace which aims to give youngsters theoretical training in various aspects of the hospitality industry, as well as offer them the chance to gain practical insight into vital roles within the industry.

July 17 was a day full of celebrations for 134 Ekurhuleni youngsters who graduated from the Peermont Hotel School at a ceremony held at the Red Roman Shed in Emperors Palace.

For three students, Selekho Gwaji of Payneville, Nomthandazo Khasane of Katlehong and Palesa Sihlangu of Daveyton it was even more memorable.

They not only graduated but also received the Trailblazer of the Year awards for being the top students in their respective courses.

Gwaji successfully completed a four-month fully-funded learnership at the institution and graduated as a chef.

She received the City & Guilds floating trophy for being the top chef student in the school’s mid-year graduating group along with her Trailblazer of the Year award.

Zanele Hlatshwayo is a Duduza resident who also successfully completed a four-month fully-funded learnership at the Peermont Hotel School as a waitron.

Local residents, between the ages of 18 and 25, who have their eyes set on becoming a chef, waitron or housekeeper are encouraged to apply for a sponsorship which will give successful applicants the opportunity to complete a four-month course at the school.

The institution would like to do what they can to better the future of the youth in Ekhuruleni and decrease the unemployment rate.
