Prestigious event held to award Springs police officers

It pays to serve your community, as police learned at an awards ceremony.

On Thursday the Springs SAPS hosted its medal ceremony and parade.

This ceremony was held to acknowledge and honour the officers who displayed irreproachable and exemplary work.

The procession was led by Captain Johannes Ramphora, who was assisted by his colleagues in handing the medals over.

These awards were awarded to officers who have been in service for 10 years, 20 years and 30 years, respectively.

Among those 10-, 20- and 30-year service medals, there was a Centenary Medal being awarded as well.

The Centenary Medal was awarded to Colonel Doctor Mtimkulu, and the whole room ululated in his honour.

For the 30-year citation, Brigadier Thembeka Gwebushe, Colonel Karel Stoltz, Colonel Rosemary Mkasi, Captain Gerald Foche, Captain Petros Mashinini, Captain Izak Ngolo, Captain Jane Seele, Captain Sabata Shasha and Captain Sonja Cilliers received medals.

For the 20-year citation, Captain Maria Sekonya, Captain Sandra Mnisi and Captain Shelton received awards.

For the 10-year citation, the awards were received by Sergeant Dineo Badi, Sergeant Vusi Dladla, Sergeant Monwabisi Khalusi, Sergeant Lesiba Lepadima, Sergeant Buti Letsatsi, Sergeant Kudu Mahlabane, Sergeant Ntsekawe Mahlabane, Sergeant Lesiba Mashala, Sergeant Stanley Mashele, Sergeant Paulos Masuku, Sergeant Xoli Mgiba, Sergeant Cedric Monareng, Sergeant Cornelius Moropa, Sergeant Maishe Mothao, Sergeant Linah Mtsweni, Sergeant Johannes Ndlela, Sergeant Itumuleng Phooku, Sergeant Sheila Ramlall, Sergeant Mmeselane Ramoshu, Sergeant Mandla Shabangu, Sergeant Mandla Sibanyoni, Sergeant Meshack Sikonde, Sergeant Mzwandile Speelman, Sergeant Thandi Tshabangu, Constable Martin Foreman, Constable Michael Khobotlo, Constable Thabo Maseko, Constable Raymond Mogashoa, Constable Lindiwe Mokeona, Sergeant Trevor Nkuna and Sergeant Kgobisa Tshehla.

Captain Maria Sekonya says, “I feel excited, honoured and humbled. I’m celebrating exactly 25 years in the South African Police Service.”

This was a prestigious event that honoured the people who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving the people of Springs.
