Mandela Day event at Oak of Glory Ministries

The Oak of Glory Ministries from Welgedacht held an event for Mandela Day on Saturday at their church.

They invited grandmothers and grandfathers from communities such as Welgedacht, Slovo Park, Bakerton and surrounding areas as part of a “thanksgiving” for the elderly.

Pastor Enoch Mnisi says they cooked for the elderly and gave them coffee, tea and biscuits to start off the event.

A construction group sponsored the event as well as gift bags that were given to every granny who attended.

Bishop Lucky Ncayiyana, founder and general overseer of the church says the church must be relevant in the community.

“They look after us, now we need to stand up and thank them,” he says.

Elderly residents of the Welgedacht area were treated for Mandela Day on Saturday by the Oak of Glory Ministries.

Lucky started the church in 2012 and says he strongly feels the church must do something for the community, other than church service and praying.

“This is one of our ways of giving back to the community, just to say thank you.”

The church is currently in the process of hosting fund-raisers to raise funds so they can buy land to build a church on.

Lucky says they do not want to have church in a tent forever, but that he believes “God will provide”.

Lucky has a strong message to the youth and says: “Do not abandon your elders.”

“Our vision is big.”
