Springs man dies in train accident

Train crash costs man his life.

A man who is believed to be in his 20s has died in a horrific accident.

The man, whose name is currently unknown, was hit by a train on Wednesday morning.

Captain Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson for the Springs police, says two men were arguing on the railway line.

One of the men bent over to tie his shoelaces when the train came towards him.

“It is alleged the train driver hooted, but the man did not move fast enough,” says Ramphora.

Russel Meiring, communications officer for ER24, says the accident happened near Gold Street in Springs.

He says the paramedics arrived on the scene to find all the relevant authorities in attendance.

After close inspection paramedics found the man’s lifeless body underneath the train.

ER24 says paramedics assessed the man and found he had succumbed to his injuries and there was nothing that could be done for him.

He was declared dead on the scene.

It is not yet clear what transpired, but local authorities were on the scene to conduct further investigations.

Ramphora says they are investigating who the deceased was, where he stayed and how old he was.

EMPD spokesperson Wilfred Kgasago referred Springs Advertiser to William Ntladi, spokesperson for Disaster and Emergency Management Services, but he was not reachable for comment at the time of publishing.
