Epilepsy South Africa Geduld Centre gets new partner in the form of the Modderbee Correctional Facility

It was a team effort as wardens and offenders worked together to help residents at the Epilepsy South Africa Geduld Centre.

The Modderbee Correctional Facility has adopted the Epilepsy South Africa Geduld Centre for the foreseeable future.

The facility started working with the centre during Takkie Tax and once they realised the need, decided to adopt them.

Wardens from Modderbee donated mealie meal and blankets which were knitted by offenders for Mandela Day and worked on the nursery at the centre.

It took two days to clear out the nursery which was used as a dumping zone and they have now planted spinach, beetroot and other vegetables.

The nursery before Modderbee Correctional Facility agricultural technicians started working on it.

Various trees were also planted around the centre.

Officials from Modderbee got stuck in and raked leaves and cleaned up around the centre.

“As public servants, it is important for us to give back to the community.

“We will work with them until they can sustain themselves and we hope to do some skills training, share our resources and we also hope to bring in some probationers to work in the centre with us.

“Everything was already here, we just came in with TLC,” says Mabore Molokela, the manager of special programmes at Modderbee.
