A taxi owner was killed in Springs on Tuesday morning, one of many taxi-related incidents the country has seen in the past week.

A 55-year-old man was shot and killed in Bakerton yesterday (Tuesday) at around 11.30am.

According to the South African Police Service’s Twitter account, the man was shot in First Street as he exited his vehicle at a shoe repair shop.

Springs Taxi Association (STA) chairperson Leonard Molo, says the deceased man was not a member of the STA, but that he resides in Bakerton.

“We do not have any problems, for now, but this is something one cannot plan for,” he says.

Molo says the association “takes it as it comes”, but continue to preach peace to all their members.
