Springs dancers excel in Spain

Dancers salsa all the way to finals.

The dancers from Dance Directions competed in the Dance World Cup in Spain, the Springs Civic Star Championship and in the Oos-Rand Kunstefees during the past two months.

The competition in Spain took place from June 22 to July 1 and was host to more than 46 countries.

To qualify for the finals in Spain, contestants had to achieve a certain percentage in both the regionals and nationals.

In Spain for the Dance World Cup, Dawsyn Janse van Rensburg (8) took part in solo contemporary and hip-hop.

He scored 78.2 per cent in both categories.

Ayden Janse van Rensburg (14) also competed in the Dance World Cup in the solo jazz and hip-hop categories and attained 79.2 per cent for jazz as well as 80.1 per cent for hip-hop.

The boys’ mother, Vanessa Janse van Rensburg says: “It was a privilege and the competition helped them grow as dancers.”

Wilandri Combrinck (15) from the dance studio took part in the Oos-Rand Kunstefees and made it to the finals.

She danced in the jazz, salsa and contemporary categories and attained 83 per cent for jazz, 67 per cent for salsa and 86 per cent for contemporary.

She went on to compete in the finals for contemporary.

Out of more than 30 people who participated in the competition, only five made it to the finals.

The Springs Civic Star Championship was held at the civic centre in Springs where Wilandri Combrinck, Lune Ras (9), Michelle Fourie (15) and Jacky van Staden (46) took part in various dance categories such as salsa, Latin and contemporary.

Lune and Wilandri both came fifth in the beginner’s division of their respective age groups.

Lune Ras, Jacky van Staden, Michelle Fourie, Wilandri Combrinck and Mariska Wolmarans.

Michelle came second in salsa and third in Latin and she competed in the silver division.

Jacky came second in both her categories in the bronze division.
