Springs Mall hosts Panties and Bras campaign

The Panties and Bras campaign raised awareness at the Springs Mall on Saturday.

A stage was set up outside one of the entrances to the mall where music blasted from the speakers.

Founder of the non-profit organisation, Florence Khoza, says their aim was to raise awareness and encourage the public to donate new panties and bras which are distributed to less privileged girls.

“We were very fortunate to receive a large sponsorship from a vehicle manufacturer who donated a large sum for us to buy new panties and bras, and we also received sponsorship from a soft drink manufacturer,” she says.

Minenhle Khanyile from Durban explains the aim of the campaign to Flora Tshabalala from KwaThema in the Springs Mall on Saturday.

Learners from Nkumbulo High School in KwaThema and Langaville Primary School in Tsakane handed out pamphlets in the mall and chatted to people to showcase their plight.

Large boxes were stationed outside the mall where shoppers could donate new underwear to the organisation.

The Panties and Bras team will hold campaigns in different malls around the country.

The Panties and Bras campaign is a corporate social initiative by the Flojo Foundation.

As written in the pamphlet, the aim of this campaign is to shine a spotlight on disadvantaged girls and to help empower and develop their potential.

Velaohi Malangabi and Mxolosi Mabena sing and dance for the shoppers while encouraging them to support the Panties and Bras campaign at the Springs Mall on Saturday.

“This initiative highlights many young girls’ struggles with getting basic needs such as sanitary towels, panties and bras,” said Khoza.

The campaign also introduced a mentorship programme which will run throughout the year.

If you missed the campaign at the mall, but still wish to donate underwear, donations can be delivered to:

• Langaville Primary School in Tsakane.

• Nkumbulo High School in KwaThema.

• Auto Alpina Springs.

• Springs Advertiser and African Reporter office.

• Intercessor Army Franchising in Tembisa.
