KwaZenzele residents fed up with delay

Phase 2 project in KwaZenzele Informal Settlement delayed.

The residents of KwaZenzele Informal Settlement are getting tired of what they see as been given the runaround.

Residents are upset that Phase 2 of the project earmarked to give the RDP houses has not begun.

The residents allege that when they ask the Lesedi Local Municipality what the delay is, they were allegedly given different answers by the municipality.

“We had a meeting with them at the beginning of May, and we were informed that construction would begin on June 1.

“It is now the end of June and we still have not heard anything from them.

“All we want to know is what is causing the delay.

“If they are not able to build us the houses, they must just say so,” says Jabu Madela, a resident from the settlement.

Local councillor Simon Monyakeni says, “The project has already started and there have been two progress meetings.

“Eight people from KwaZenzele have been employed so far for site establishment and the communications liaison Officer has been appointed.

“The contractor will be on site this week.”

The next progress meeting about the project will take place on July 13 at the construction site.

The Lesedi Local Municipality failed to respond in time for publication.
