Springs homeowner shoots and kills robber in his home

An alleged robber was shot dead by a homeowner on a smallholding in Vischkuil, early on Tuesday morning.

Capt Johannes Ramphora, spokesperson for the Springs police, says the owner and his wife were sleeping when they were awoken by three armed suspects.

“There were apparently eight dogs in the yard, three were found to have been poisoned,” he says.

According to Ramphora, the suspects pointed their firearms at the couple and demanded goods.

“The owner shot at the suspects, shooting one of them dead. The other suspects retaliated and injured the man before fleeing the scene.”

The suspects gained entry by breaking through burglar bars.

Ramphora says a 9mm firearm was found next to the deceased’s body.

“The man was taken to Netcare N17 Hospital, his wife is extremely traumatised.”

The police are investigating a case of house robbery.
