Selection Park residents in uproar over proposed cellphone tower

Residents in Selection Park were surprised to see notices going up informing them of the proposed erection of a cellphone tower.

“My son first noticed the sign hanging on the fence last week Thursday.

“We were curious about it so we went and read it.

“I was quite surprised by it as this was the first we had heard about this tower,” says Micheal Dallas.

Residents are upset by the manner in which the metro and the construction company have gone about the proposed erection of this tower.

In an objection letter written to the metro, residents allege that they were never consulted about the erection of this tower.

Furthermore, residents are worried about the potential health risks that come with living in close proximity to the tower.

Residents also reject the idea of the tower being erected in Selection Park as they feel it is not suitable to a residential area and would lower the value of their property.

Those who are against the proposed erection of the cellphone tower must send their objections together with their grounds in writing to both the construction company and the metro.

For the construction company, the objects must be sent via email to kele@siphilasonke.co.za

When writing to the metro, the letter must be addressed to Chief Building Inspector: Department of Infrastructure Services, Corner of Plantation and South Main Reef Road, Springs 1559 by no later than June 22.

The residents of Selection Park will also be distributing a petition that they plan to hand over to the metro.

Siphila Sonke and the metro both failed to respond in time for publication.
