Metro allegedly refuse issuing Springs couple with hawker’s licence

“We can’t take the risk of selling our goods without a licence,” says Tersia.

A Strubenvale couple was disappointed after they were allegedly told by the Ekurhuleni Metro that the database was full so they would be unable to apply for a hawker’s licence.

“We wanted to have a stand on Ermelo Road and we were told by the other hawkers that we needed a licence.

“If you just set up a stand without a licence, the police can confiscate your goods.

“We can’t take the risk of selling our goods without a licence,” says Tersia Mostert.

Tersia and her husband, Mossie, were left frustrated by their experience as they say they are just trying to do the right thing and make a living the honest way.

The pensioners tried going to the police for help but the police only issue a certificate to deal with second-hand goods so they were unable to help the pensioners.

The pair now do not know how to proceed as they depend on the sale of their goods for income.

The metro failed to respond in time for publication.
