George McDonald was left furious after the metro refused to empty his rubbish bin because it did not have the Ekurhuleni Metro logo on it.
“The reason I have two bins in the first place is that they haven’t been collecting the rubbish every week so the extra bin was to deal with the overflow of rubbish.
“When I asked them why they were not emptying my rubbish bin, the man very aggressively told me they don’t take bins without the logo on them.
“This was very strange to me because when they haven’t collected the rubbish the previous week, they would empty both rubbish bins,” says McDonald.

McDonald finds this very unfair as he pays his rates and taxes every month, and always puts out just one bin.
The overflowing rubbish has now become a health hazard for the pensioner.
Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro says: “The bin marked Ekurhuleni has a serial number which is registered with the owner’s rates account for billing purposes.
“It has also a microchip embedded into the bin.”
If a resident needs more than one bin, they should collect it from the Springs Waste Depot on Stadium Road in Geduld Extension Four, where the extra bin will be recorded on the rates account and the applicable monthly refuse charge will be levied accordingly.
