Lala Ngoxolo Crematorium in Crystal Park opens again after four-month closure

The trip to Brixton was too expensive for many.

The Lala Ngoxolo Crematorium in Crystal Park is open again after being shut down for four months.

The crematorium was shut down because of health and safety issues.

Residents in Springs were hit hard by the closure of this crematorium as it was the closest one to them and is one of the few government crematoriums in the East Rand.

The closure of this facility meant residents who wished to cremate their loved ones had to travel to Brixton in Johannesburg.

Eddi Manicum said: “I haven’t been personally affected by the closure of the crematorium, but my family and friends have.

“It’s hard because not everyone has the money to travel to Brixton.

“It’s really expensive.”

The residents struggled with the costs of the crematorium in Brixton as it is a private facility and it costs more than the crematorium in Crystal Park.
