The Springs Muslim School treated 20 grannies from Bakerton to a shopping spree and lunch on Thursday morning.
The outing was in partnership with the South African National Zakáh Fund (SANZAF), who runs this campaign across the country every year.
For teachers Muniera Choughley, Azra Kara, Sureya Asvat and Faheema Saib, this was just one part of the community work they do as a school.

“We always do community events, such as a blanket drive, food hampers for Ramadan, sponsor school fees and do meat parcels for the disadvantaged.
“This day was just a special treat some of the grannies from our local community.
“We had some of the learners here helping them to pick out clothes,” says Choughley.
The local clothing shop was a hive of activity as the grannies picked out their clothes.
Fatima Seedat was thrilled about their day of pampering.
“It is very nice, this is the second time this has happened, and you know, I used to work here.”
“I feel so happy,” says Erin Mathebula as she browsed around the shop.
The day ended with the grannies being treated to lunch at a local fast food outlet.
