Woman caught red-handed at Covenant Kids Crèche in Wit Road

Principal had to restrain herself after catching alleged thief in the act.

Simone van Deventer, principal of Covenent Kids Crèche in Wit Road, was almost robbed of her new laptop last Friday after two men and a woman arrived at her creche and claimed they wanted to enroll their twin children into the school.

Van Deventer says the men seemed friendly but did not seem too interested in any of the information she gave them about the creche.

After this, van Deventer took one of the men and the woman on a tour while the other man remained in their vehicle.

While she was giving the tour, van Deventer noticed that the man always stood in front of her to block her view of the woman.

They then asked for water and van Deventer saw the woman go back into her office but took no notice of it at first.

After a short while van Deventer went back to her office and arrived just in time to see the woman putting her brand new laptop into her bag.

“At first, I wanted to hit her.

“Instead I calmed down and told her to sit down while I pressed the panic button and phoned the police,” says van Deventer.

The woman was arrested on the scene but the two men who were also involved fled.

The principal has since put the footage of the woman up on Facebook to notify other nursery schools.

Van Deventer believes it could be a syndicate as a few other creches such as Lappieland Opvoedkundige Sentrum have contacted her claiming to have experienced the same problem with the same people in their creches.

A case of theft was opened at the Springs Police Station and the woman is set to appear in court soon.
