Crocodile and snake skins, wildcat jaws found in Springs CBD

Four hotels were closed down during an operation in the Springs CBD where crocodile skins, snake skins and wild cat jaws were also found.

The Ekurhuleni East Cluster and the Central Cluster conducted operation Fiela in Springs CBD last Friday at 10am.

The Tactical Response Team, Gauteng Flying Squad, Public Policing Order, EMPD, other government departments, liquor board and the environmental unit also participated in the operation.

Cluster commander of Ekurhuleni East Gen Girly Mbele addressed the members about the purpose of the operation.

“Always be vigilant to crime and always uphold the rules of the law when arresting any person committing a crime,” she says.

She emphasised the purpose of making Springs a safe place for the community.

The members were encouraged to arrest, and combat crime, such as drug dealers, business robberies, house robberies, hijackings and armed robberies.

“The operation yielded good results,” says Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora.

Four hotels were closed for not complying with the liquor act.

Two shops were closed for failing to comply with health standards in terms of the by-laws.

One suspect was arrested for being in possession of vulnerable species items such as crocodile skins, snake skins and the jaws of wild cats to the value of R40 000.

Two suspects were arrested for being in possession of dagga.

Mbele applauded the members for their commitment to protecting the community with dignity and pride.
