Residents upset by the mess on Broad Street after metro cuts grass

Street left looking worse than before after metro cuts grass.

Trudy van Zyl was left dismayed after the metro cut the grass on Broad Street.

“They cut the grass without removing the rubbish that was there first.

“So now, all the rubbish that was hidden by the long grass, has appeared and the grass has added to that mess,” says van Zyl.

When she questioned the contractor about why they were leaving the rubbish and the grass there, Van Zyl alleges that she was told by the contractor that they are only supposed to cut the grass and not rake it up afterwards.

Van Zyl further alleges that the contractor told her that they only do it in Selection Park.

The street is full of litter and van Zyl is tired of the residents dumping their rubbish illegally.

There are plastic bags, cans, old mattress parts and dirty cloths lying on the street and when it rains, it blocks the gutters and the drains and the water can’t flow away.

Van Zyl was upset by the unequal service given to people in Springs as they all pay their rates and taxes.

“How can we pay for a service that hasn’t been properly rendered?” asked van Zyl.

The metro failed to respond in time for publication.
