JUST IN: Two men were shot and killed in Tsakane in a suspected taxi violence incident today

The men were working for a security company which was contracted to render close protection to members of the Brakpan Taxi Association.

Tsakane – Two men were shot and killed and a third one seriously injured in Ndaba Street in Tsakane, just at the gate of Pholosong Hospital this morning (Thursday).

It is alleged the incident may be related to taxi violence.

Tsakane police spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mngomezulu says it is alleged the men had just picked up one of the members of the association.

“They were driving along Ndaba Street in a marked VW Golf 7 GTI when they were attacked by the occupants of two motor vehicles, a kombi and sedan.

“It is alleged the kombi drove past the Golf and blocked the way in front of the victim’s vehicle and the sedan at the back.

“They started shooting at the occupants in the Golf 7,” she says.

Mngomezulu says one of the guards in the Golf 7, who is believed to have been the driver, died instantly and the other one was rushed to the hospital, where he died on arrival.

“The third occupant, who is the member of the taxi association, was critically injured and is in hospital.

“The motive for the shooting is not known at this point and the suspects are still at large.

“Police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder related to taxi violence,” she says.
