• The Tamil communities around the world are to celebrate their New Year. Bhairavi Sungum of Springs is hosting a cultural concert of songs, dance and music in Tamil in celebration of their heritage. The community is invited to the celebration at the Bakerton Community Centre on First Avenue commencing at 5.50pm. Contact Thavashini Moodley on 071 869 2592 or email bhairavisungum@gmail.com.

• Springs Tamil Association invites all Devotees to join them at 9am at the Sitthi Vinayagar Alayam to celebrate Tamil New Year 5119. Children are invited to participate in the Havan and Abishegam on this Auspicious Day. Thiruvilakku Arici Poojai will be performed thereafter. Young girls and women are encouraged to participate. April 21

• Box car relay at The Avenues from 10am. Enter a team of four people, arrive on the day and make your car out of a box before taking to the race track. Car design will begin at 9.30am and teams from high and primary schools and companies are invited to join in the fun. There will also be a box donation drive in aid of The Avenues mobile library. May 5

• Giant Paw People will host six-a-side cricket event at Springs Old Boys Club to fulfill their promise to donate 100 doggy beds to shelters. There will be 10 teams of six players taking part at R120 per player which will include a cap and T-shirt. You may enter as an individual or team and both senior and junior players are welcome. They will also collect dog food and all funds will go towards animals in need. Aside from the cricket, there will be food stalls and music. Dogs welcome provided they are socialised. Entry is dog or cat food. Registration is at 8.30am and the first game will begin at 9am. To book a stall or for more information contact Nicky Meiring on 084 455 2220.

• The annual Just Wheels Show will be held at Muriel Brand School from 8am. Hundreds of cars will be on display, 4×4 activities, several exhibitions, flea market stalls and entertainment. Contact Bart Zaayman on 083 390 8589.
